I’ve scoured the internet and found 10 really interesting facts about Carpet. While this was a bit of a daunting task, I’m confident that if there is ever a category for carpet on Jeopardy, you are bound to see one or two of these amazing facts.

The term “Carpet Bagger” was an incredibly derogatory statement that described the Northerners during the Civil War. Why Carpet Bagger? Northerners actually carried all of there possessions with them while traveling to various battle locations. These travel bags were made of carpet.

An awesome way to make you carpet’s colors brighter is by sprinkling a layer of salt onto the carpet and allow it to sit for an hour. Vacuum it up and enjoy the revitalized color.

“Magic Carpet Ride,” a popular song by Steppenwolf of Canada appeared at number 3 on the US charts in the 1960′s. This song was the second by Steppenwolf to take the U.S. by storm, the first was “Born to Be Wild.”

If you keep your carpet properly clean and maintain it well, it can improve the quality of the air in your home! This is because it traps dust and allergens, and when it is cleaned (properly) you eliminate all of the particles from stirring back into the air.

“Carpet” comes from the Latin term carpere. It means “to pluck” because at this time you generally had to pluck unraveled fibers to make them. Carpet also share the Latin root with the word “Carpe Diem,” which means to “pluck or seize the day!”

The oldest carpet that still exists today is 2,000 years old. It is called the Pazyryk carpet and it was found in a Scythian tomb in Siberia in the 1940′s.
