What Busy Families Should Consider When They Buy Carpet Online
It can be hard to narrow down what choices to make when you buy carpet online. But when you throw a household of children into the mix suddenly it goes from bad to worse! But I’m here to let you know that it doesn’t have to be something to be afraid of. If you follow these guidelines, you will identify the key points of what to look for when you decide to get the flooring of your dreams.
You will want to select a high quality carpet first and foremost.
This is not to break the bank, in fact most of the time if you look for sales when you buy carpet online you typically can get a nice piece of carpet for a fraction of the price of what you would pay in your local home improvement store. The reasoning for high quality is that it will be able to stand up to the abuse and chaos of children playing, accidental spills, rainy days, and birthday parties.
See all carpets wear with any amount of use overtime, no matter how great the quality is but it will definitely last longer if you choose one that comes with the added perks of being a better quality carpet.
High Traffic Homes
It is rather important in a busy household to get a carpet rated for high traffic situations. This will pay off in the long run. Carpets are actually rated by how well they stand up to heavy foot traffic. And if you are looking to put it in a busy family room, you will want to choose carpeting rated between a 4 and a 5. Any traffic rating lower will just not wear well enough for your room. I have seen many families buying commercial carpet for the home because of its ability to handle an extreme amount of foot traffic.
There are some excellent fibers to look for when you buy carpet online. My three favorites are nylon, polyester or PET polyester. Each of these has their own advantages for high traffic areas.
- Nylon – is known for its ability to hold its color through repeated washing. It is also known for being an incredibly strong carpet fiber in the resilience department. Resilience is based on the carpets ability to spring back into place after it has been crushed or walked on. Nylon carpet is also an excellent soil hiding fiber. The only downfall I can associate with this fiber choice is that it does not do well with sun exposure. This can cause fading, so the best application for this particular kind of carpet would be in a dark setting.
- Polyester – It is just a stain resistant machine, although it is a bit on the expensive side.
- PET Polyester – Even better at preventing stains, but its main advantage is that it has a high melting point. This makes it a great choice if you will be steam cleaning often due to a lot of spills and tracked in dirt.
Another thing to look at is how tight the twist is in the carpet fibers. This can be a good indication of the durability of the carpet. But twist isn’t everything, sometimes carpets with less twist in the fibers hold up better in high traffic areas.
Protecting the carpet from the ground up!
A good carpet padding can make an insane difference in how well your carpet will wear. The padding will also provide you and your family with the cushioning and the foundation needed to allow the carpet to wear evenly. This is because when you use padding, weight and pressure from walking on the carpet will be distributed evenly, preventing microscopic tearing and unraveling of the carpets backing and its fibers.
The right color choice can be just as important as the bones of the carpet itself. Choosing a carpet that is darker or even multi-colored such as a speckled frieze, will show less dirt from day to day activities.
Hopefully I addressed some issues that will make buying carpet online a bit less hectic for you and your busy family. But remember no matter whom you are or what type of household you run there is a carpet out there that is perfect for your families needs. Until next time, Happy Flooring!
